A Boat Drawn in Black Thread

Published · Updated

A fishing boat takes shape across a white wall in fine black thread. Small projecting pins hold the lines that describe the hull, cabin, mast and rigging. The closely spaced threads follow the long curve of the boat, while loose ends and tiny knots remain visible around its edges. A darker tangle falls from the side toward the floor like a fishing net, adding depth to the otherwise delicate outline.

Daylight enters through a tall coastal window and casts faint shadows from the threads onto the limewashed wall. Beyond the glass, calm blue water surrounds low rocky islands. A simple bench, a small vase and worn timber floorboards keep the room restrained, letting the elaborate construction dominate. The full boat is visible from the high mast to the hanging net, with enough surrounding space to understand its scale. This portrait photograph brings together drawing, textile craft and a quiet seaside interior. The many small physical connections give the artwork its character and reward a closer look.
