Bottle kilns rise above the old pottery yard
Published · Updated
Bottle kilns rise above the old pottery yard in a receding row of curved brick towers. Their broad lower walls narrow into tall necks, each finished with a simple projecting rim. Thin dark iron bands follow the masonry, and a plain arched opening cuts into the nearest base.
Warm evening light picks out individual bricks and uneven mortar joints against the clouded sky. Lower workshop roofs sit between the larger forms, making their height easier to read. Rain puddles break the rough paving below and reflect pieces of the towers, while scattered ochre leaves add smaller shapes across the empty, richly textured yard.
