The Brass Crow Fortune on the Pier
Published · Updated
A brass crow stands above a small, weathered penny machine at a seaside tea table. Its open beak, layered metal feathers and exposed joints give the ornament a curious alertness. A hand holds a coin just above the slot, while another rests around a cup at the far side of the table. The bird remains the centre of the scene, framed by teal booth upholstery and the tall windows behind it.
A single black feather lies on a patterned saucer. Nearby are warm scones, a teapot, a little dish of pennies and striped gourds in a clear bowl. These familiar objects make the mechanical bird feel stranger without overwhelming the quiet afternoon setting. Beyond the glass, pale sunlight catches a choppy green sea and the dark legs of the pier.
The tall composition follows the tabletop toward the crow and then out to the water. Worn brass, knitted cuffs and dark wood add tactile detail, while the daylight keeps the Halloween mood gentle and believable. The photograph is free to reuse, including for commercial projects.
