Brass parade rounds the autumn street corner
Published · Updated
Brass parade players move along a leaf-strewn street beneath a canopy of golden maples. Four musicians wear dark uniforms with teal panels, cream diagonal stripes and pale hats. Trumpet and trombone bells catch the daylight at the front, while a smiling player carries his larger instrument just behind them. The men hold different walking positions, giving the group an easy forward rhythm. Brick shopfronts, hanging garlands and small pumpkin arrangements place the music within a town already dressed for autumn.
The autumn street music is suggested through breath, instrument angle and the shared pace of the players. Polished metal reflects pieces of the buildings and sky, contrasting with the soft dark fabric of the jackets. The community musicians occupy the middle of the picture, leaving room for the tall trees and receding street above them. Fallen leaves repeat the warm highlights in the brass. Instead of a stage or formal audience, the road itself becomes the setting for an informal performance carried from one corner to the next.
