Fire obsidian rests on charcoal felt with luminous color bands and a dark curved fracture edge in soft angled light.

Fire obsidian holds a ribbon of color

Published · Updated

Fire obsidian rests at an angle on charcoal felt, its dark body holding a broad sweep of color. Gold and copper tones gather near one edge, while violet, cobalt and teal appear across the smoother face. Thin black streaks divide the color bands into irregular sections. Small surface variations interrupt the shine and keep the stone’s texture visible.

A fractured edge runs along the near side. Curved ripples and sharp ridges catch narrow white highlights, revealing the contrast between the glossy black break and the wider polished area behind it. Dust-colored specks sit within a few of the creases. The specimen has an uneven outline rather than the regular shape of a mounted jewel.

Fine wool fibers spread across the felt beneath it, with a darker contact shadow following the stone’s base. Soft focus gradually reduces the texture farther away. The simple background leaves the mineral’s changing colors and broken edges as the main subject. Angled light makes the small object feel substantial without adding a bright decorative setting around it.
