A Carousel Horse During Its Restoration

Published · Updated

A carousel horse reveals old timber beneath bright decoration as its restoration progresses. One craftsperson paints a red flower on the green chest strap, while another sands a lower leg. The carved mane is deep teal, and the newly finished ivory neck contrasts with the worn wooden flank.

The large figure stands securely on a padded steel support surrounded by shavings, brushes and open paint pots. Beyond the workshop door, an empty carousel waits in the afternoon light. The photograph connects fine brushwork with a much larger fairground object, showing the patience and material detail involved in bringing a familiar ride back to life.
