Catching snowflakes on the winter porch
Published · Updated
Catching snowflakes gives a father and daughter a reason to pause beneath the winter porch light. Both tilt their faces toward the falling flakes with small open smiles, while the girl holds one mitten palm-up beside her. Her patterned snow jacket brings teal, lime and gold into the cold scene, balanced by purple mittens and a striped knitted hat. The father's dark quilted jacket opens over a red-and-cream sweater. Their boots rest on the same weathered boards, and the shared upward attention makes the simple activity feel connected.
A large hanging lantern warms the white clapboard wall, dark green doors and evergreen garland behind them. Square columns and curved brackets continue along the broad porch, where a rocking chair sits farther from the camera. Snow gathers at the outer edge of the sheltered floor and on the garden shrubs below. Beyond a bare tree, another house shows a few amber windows against blue dusk. Near the lantern, individual flakes stand out clearly. The photograph keeps the winter home as visible as the family, joining everyday architecture, layered clothing and a brief playful pause.
