A cinema projectionist prepares the reel
Published · Updated
A cinema projectionist prepares a reel before the next screening, guiding a narrow strip of film through the machine's exposed rollers. His separated hands make the film threading easy to follow, while the upper supply reel and lower take-up reel show the path through the mechanical film projector. A cream shirt and patterned burgundy waistcoat stand out against the dark equipment.
The small projection booth combines blue painted brick, a warm work lamp and cooler light from a rear window. Metal film cans rest on a shelf, and the enclosed lamp house connects to a ventilation pipe above. The side view leaves the worker's face visible alongside the machinery. Steel, brass, glass and cotton each keep their own texture in this close view of careful preparation.
