A Coral Crochet Dress Brightens the Auction
Published · Updated
A coral crochet dress brings intricate texture to an unusual antiques auction. The auctioneer stands behind a narrow lectern, holding a wooden auction gavel above its block as a bidder raises a numbered paddle. Her dress combines circular floral motifs, horizontal openwork bands, bell sleeves and a scalloped hem. Cream Mary Janes complete the clearly visible outfit.
The blue fish vase beside her is almost as tall as the lectern, with a wide open mouth, embossed scales and glossy cobalt glaze. Two seated bidders frame the foreground, their checked jacket and floral dress adding quieter patterns. High windows, white brick walls and rows of old furniture establish the industrial saleroom. Daylight crosses the raised timber platform and gives the playful oversized lot a convincing sense of weight.
