Drying persimmons glow beneath the eaves
Published · Updated
Drying persimmons form a glowing orange curtain beneath the deep eaves of a farmhouse. Each peeled fruit hangs from a thin white string, spaced at a slightly different height below sturdy poles. Low sunlight passes through the flesh and reveals the small knots against dark timber shutters behind.
The veranda continues beside a low bench with woven harvest baskets and a plain bowl. At its open end, an orchard slopes away through copper leaves and pale morning mist. The close detail of fruit, bamboo and wood leads toward that broader landscape, connecting the careful preparation beneath the roof with the trees that fill the autumn hillside.
