Five in the Manor Dovecote

Published · Updated

White feathers drift through the manor dovecote as five costumed figures look up. An owl spreads broad brown wings from the shoulders of a man in a black cape and tricorn. Around them stand a lady in a pale gown, a hare in a velvet coat and a gamekeeper in tweed. Their attention draws the eye upward, against the strong downward view from the roof opening.

Rows of dark nesting holes cover the round stone walls. White doves sit quietly in several recesses, and a tall wooden ladder frame rises behind the group. Dry straw covers the floor around a single orange pumpkin. Close to the viewer, a weathered timber edge frames the falling feathers; farther below, the costume wings reveal layers of mottled plumes. Cold daylight keeps the stone grey and the straw a soft honey colour. The image brings the textures of an old dovecote into an unusual Halloween gathering, offering a detailed vertical wallpaper or a seasonal print that holds both architectural scale and a small shared moment.
