A ribbon canopy turns a narrow courtyard into a generous space for an autumn lunch. Hundreds of colored strips drape above a long table, with small lights following the folds. White cloth, a dark floral runner and tall clear vases of flowers add further layers beneath the bright overhead swags.

Friends sit along the table in varied clothes, passing food and leaning into conversation. The closest guests share a bowl across the place settings, giving the elaborate decoration an everyday purpose. Sunlight filters through the ribbons onto the brickwork and cloth, while the long view through the courtyard reveals the full scale of the gathering.
