Ghost Clothesline Crosses the Halloween Garden

Published · Updated

A ghost clothesline turns the space between two porches into a playful Halloween passage. Seven cheesecloth ghosts hang at different heights above the brick garden, their round heads marked with simple black oval eyes. Wooden pegs hold the fabric to rough natural rope. Uneven folds and lifted hems make each little figure slightly different from the next.

The lines stretch between painted porch supports and a weathered timber pole. Their visible knots and gentle sag keep the floating display connected to its everyday construction. White and lavender clapboard walls frame the narrow route, while porch lamps cast amber pools across posts, steps and plant pots. Fine twig garlands follow the edges of the entrances without closing the walkway.

Orange pumpkins sit among copper chrysanthemums near the ground. The wet herringbone paving carries broken reflections toward a pale picket gate beneath a golden tree. Cool evening blue remains visible above the houses, balancing the warmth of the lamps. The complete garden feels carefully decorated yet walkable, with the familiar idea of hanging laundry transformed into a lighthearted seasonal spectacle.
