A globe maker applies a tapered map segment to a cream paper globe held in a wooden cradle in a bright workshop.

A globe maker fits the next paper segment

Published · Updated

A globe maker brings a flat paper segment onto a curved surface. The large paper globe rests in a wooden cradle while one hand steadies the tapered piece and the other smooths it with a small brush. Teal coastlines and ochre areas spread across the cream sphere without competing with the physical work.

Long map gores hang from clips behind the bench, their narrow ends revealing how separate pieces can cover a rounded form. Unfinished spheres, wooden bases and articulated lamps give the loft its working character. The raised camera position keeps the maker's face, hands and globe together, while paper edges, brush bristles and soft light emphasize the patient application.
