Green-Eyed Cat at the Lake Parlour
Published · Updated
A tall black cat tilts its head over a sunlit parlour table, green eyes set into its dark, gently weathered surface. Its long neck and neat front paws rise from a small cream fortune box with a blank dispensing slot. Beside it, a fluted glass holds a generous pumpkin sundae topped with cream, cinnamon and a little pumpkin decoration. Two long spoons lift the eye upward through the portrait. A nearby napkin holder contains the scene's quiet surprise: the image of a living black cat licking its paw.
Mint booths with white pointed inserts repeat into the distance above a checked floor. Small white pumpkins sit along the windows, and autumn flowers warm the otherwise cool interior. Beyond the glass, rowing boats rest beside a timber jetty on bright blue water, with a band of golden trees on the opposite shore. A couple shares a table in the background. The low afternoon light gives the worn tin, upholstery and tabletop a soft seasonal warmth, making the curious cat machine the centre of this lakeside Halloween display.
