Lobster traps become a Halloween harbor beacon
Published · Updated
Lobster traps rise in a stepped tower above a wet stone quay, turning familiar fishing gear into a Halloween harbor beacon. Green and yellow wire grids remain visible beneath the warm bulbs. Round net openings, rope lashings and the edges of individual cages keep the construction readable. A small lantern chamber with a dark cap finishes the top.
Guy ropes run down to solid weights at the base, giving the tall display a convincing physical footing. Carved pumpkins sit separately along the lowest course. Their orange faces glow close to the ground, while strings of amber lights trace the changing width of the tower. The coastal decorations use the gear's own texture instead of hiding it behind fabric.
Still blue water carries long warm reflections toward moored sailboats and pale harbor houses. Above them, deep indigo clouds leave a narrow lighter strip near the horizon. The empty quay lets the installation dominate the scene. Its large silhouette feels festive and ambitious, but the visible cages and supports keep it grounded in ordinary materials.
