Mirrors Divide the Evening Beach

Published · Updated

Tall narrow mirrors form a straight line across an empty beach, their thin metal edges receding toward a pale coastal headland. Each panel reflects a separate slice of the evening sky and shoreline. Small gaps between the blades leave the real horizon visible, creating a measured rhythm of reflected and open space.

The nearest panel rises above a shallow film of tidal water. Salt marks and weathered edges give its bright surface a physical presence, while the lower frame meets the damp sand firmly. Long shadows run toward the foreground, crossing small ripples, shells and scattered leaves left near the waterline.

A low golden sun warms the clouds above gentle grey-blue waves. Its light catches the wet beach in narrow streaks and returns from the mirrors in clear fragments. Farther along the line, the panels become almost delicate against the dunes and distant cliffs. The whole scene remains quiet and unoccupied. Ordinary sand, seaweed and glass surround an installation whose repeated vertical surfaces make the familiar coastline appear newly divided and rearranged.
