A Wind Walking Sculpture on the Empty Beach

Published · Updated

A wind walking sculpture occupies the empty beach like an unfamiliar shore creature. Its jointed legs form a repeated pattern below a ribbed body, while terracotta sails rise above the framework. Small feet meet the wet sand at different points, grounding the open construction in a surface that also carries its reflection. The broad sky gives the delicate-looking structure room around it.

Warm rods and canvas stand against cooler water and cloud. From the low viewpoint, the gaps in the sculpture become as visible as the material itself, letting the distant coast appear between its parts. The photograph presents an invented physical installation within a recognizable landscape, with the weather and the long shoreline shaping its atmosphere.
