Monarch butterflies lift from the forest branches

Published · Updated

Monarch butterflies lift from the forest branches where dense clusters still cling to the bark. Orange wings carry dark veins and pale edge spots, creating an irregular pattern along the hanging branches. Nearer individuals remain clear enough to show their folded wings and small points of contact.

A few butterflies move through a shaft of warm light between the trees, separated from the heavier colony behind them. Cooler canopy gaps add depth around the orange clusters. The diagonal upward view keeps both the detailed nearest insects and the scale of the gathering visible, making the movement feel like a brief opening in a much larger living scene.
