Nacreous clouds shimmer over the empty upland
Published · Updated
Nacreous clouds stretch across the sky in long, irregular bands of pink, mint, pale yellow and cyan. Their wispy edges overlap against a deeper slate-blue background, giving the high layers a delicate pearly appearance. A darker bank of ordinary clouds sits lower near the horizon.
The empty upland occupies only a small part of the view, with thin frost, ochre grass and a rough dark boulder establishing scale. A narrow apricot glow remains above the distant ground after sunset. The low horizon leaves room for the unusual cloud colors to spread, while the quiet foreground keeps the sky connected to a tangible landscape.
