An octopus draws a shell over the sand

Published · Updated

An octopus draws an empty shell across the sand beneath clear turquoise water. One visible arm curls over the shell's rim, showing rows of pale suckers, while other arms rest or fold against the seabed. Its raised eye faces the near edge of the shell. Small grains lift around the point of contact, giving the movement a visible trace without obscuring the animal.

The shell is large beside the octopus, with a pale inner bowl and a rough, darker exterior. Its lower edge remains close to the sand. Brown and cream markings break up the animal's textured skin, contrasting with the smoother curves inside the shell and the tiny scattered fragments below.

Wavering sunlight reaches across the seabed in loose bands. Seagrass enters from the right foreground, and the sandy ground fades through green-blue water into a softer distance. The bright surface above completes the shallow underwater space. Close detail in the arm, shell and disturbed sand anchors the scene beneath that broad field of light.
