Paper moths circle the dining room moon

Published · Updated

Paper moths gather around a glowing moon lantern above a long oval dining table. Their patterned wings hang at varied heights on fine threads, creating a loose spiral across the upper room. The lantern's visible ribs and warm mottled surface keep the large sphere tactile. It feels like a handmade decoration suspended in a real room, with a chain and ceiling attachment supporting its weight.

Below, a cream linen runner falls over polished walnut. Dark plates, amber glasses, small gourds and brass candleholders form a generous but usable table setting. The chairs differ in carved detail, adding the sense of furniture collected over time. Candlelight reflects softly along the table's curved edge.

Oxblood paneling and a tiled fireplace give this Halloween dining room a deep warm frame. The tall bay windows hold cooler blue evening light and the outlines of autumn branches. Those windows prevent the scene from becoming uniformly dark. The moon lantern connects the table to the hanging paper shapes, making a quiet empty room feel ready for company.
