Tall gabled house wrapped in perforated silver metal panels with warm windows behind, beside a walled garden and narrow reflecting pool

The House behind a Perforated Veil

Published · Updated

A sharply gabled silver skin stands in front of the old brick house, filled with thousands of small square openings. Some holes are tiny and closely spaced; others grow wider across the window bays. Warm interior light passes through them, allowing the older masonry and arched windows to remain visible behind the new outer layer. Neat panel seams divide the facade into a precise grid without interrupting its tall outline.

Along the side, metal brackets and an open gap reveal how the veil stands away from the brickwork. The lower entrance stays clear, opening toward a narrow path through the walled garden. Autumn grasses gather beside a still rill, and an espalier tree follows the stone boundary. Blue evening light softens the metal while warm lamps bring small reflections to the water. The layered construction gives the modest house an unexpected delicacy.
