Ribbon waterfall opens a family passage
Published · Updated
A ribbon waterfall opens a family passage beneath the tall glass roof of a seaside promenade. The father gathers a handful of satin strips above his younger daughter, whose smiling face turns up toward him. His other hand rests on her sister's shoulder. The girls hold hands as they step through the opening together.
Yellow felt rays frame the little girl's cotton tunic, while a white cloud and dark blue raindrops decorate her sister's dress. These simple weather costumes belong naturally among the hanging waves of color. Lilac, coral, mint and yellow ribbons catch the sunlight at different angles, with twists and loose ends breaking the repeated vertical lines.
Far above the family, deeper scallops hang between the iron roof members. More curtains continue along the promenade and give the familiar walkway a surprising depth. Beyond the railing, blue water and a distant rocky shore remain visible through the arches. Worn timber boards carry long shadows across the foreground, grounding the abundant decoration in a real place and a brief, affectionate moment of passage.
