A Sand Pendulum Draws Its Last Orbit

Published · Updated

A sand pendulum hangs in a quiet stone room, its pointed brass weight poised over a shallow circular tray. Overlapping grooves form a dense series of loops across the pale surface, recording a movement that contrasts with the stillness of the photograph. The long cable continues upward to a visible ceiling mount beneath the dark timber roof.

A narrow window sends warm light across the wall and part of the sand, leaving the doorway and stone floor in cooler shadow. The low wooden rim and stout legs give the installation a modest, physical scale. Looking in through the open door places the viewer just outside the room, where the thin cable and intricate marks invite a closer look.
