Sandstone Bridge Above a Misty Gorge

Published · Updated

A sandstone gorge bridge links tall rock formations above a forested valley. Several masonry arches span the gaps, and a low crenellated parapet follows the route between the cliffs. Conifers and rust-colored trees grow on ledges beneath the bridge and along the exposed rock faces.

Layers of mist drift through the woodland as pale sunlight breaks beneath the clouds. A broad lichen-covered rock occupies the foreground, with fern fronds beside its edge. The viewpoint reveals the complete crossing and the depth below it. Horizontal stone bands, rough joints and uneven vegetation give the monumental scene a tangible sense of scale.
