A scissor grinder at the rainy market
Published · Updated
A scissor grinder brings a traditional working rhythm to a rainy market. Beneath a striped awning, he guides an open pair of scissors against a wet grinding stone while one boot rests on the wooden treadle. His blue striped shirt and dark leather apron stand out against the grey wheel and its sturdy iron frame.
Water falls from a small reservoir above the stone and gathers in the tray below. Folded floral fabrics occupy the neighboring stall, while soft reflections run through puddles on the cobbles. The broad view includes the worker's concentrated face, his careful hands and the whole foot powered arrangement, placing the craft within the changing weather of the market.
