The Shop beneath Open Umbrellas

Published · Updated

Open umbrellas form overlapping circles above the cabinets of this narrow shop. Ivory, olive and dark red canopies repeat the colors of the folded stock below, while their pale spokes make fine radial patterns overhead. A large umbrella close to the camera reveals the cloth texture and joints before the view continues toward the window.

Rows of curved wooden handles fill the glass-fronted cases. Beneath them, shallow drawers and upright compartments keep the display orderly. The rounded counter follows the same gentle bend as the aisle, carrying the eye past polished handles and reflections toward a tall bay window. Rain softens the quiet street beyond.

Cool window light balances the small warm lamps along the cabinetry. Worn floorboards and darker shelf recesses keep the rich wood from feeling uniformly bright.
