Table tennis brings the park to life
Published · Updated
Table tennis brings quick movement to a small part of a broad autumn park. Two players face each other across a dark speckled surface, their paddles following an orange ball above the perforated metal net. Thick stepped concrete supports give the permanent outdoor table a sculptural shape of its own.
The players’ low stances and contrasting ivory and green clothes make the rally easy to read within the wider view. Old brick bridge arches rise behind them, with golden trees, parked bicycles and a path extending into the distance. Warm side light joins the hard table surfaces and softer foliage around this familiar public game.
