Tambour Embroidery Catches the Evening Light

Published · Updated

Tambour embroidery spreads across a large wooden embroidery frame in a warmly lit atelier. The maker bends toward the fabric with a small hook held in her right hand and her other hand supporting the work. Her amber silk blouse gathers at the shoulders and wrists, and a long braid rests against its tied neckline. A patterned green skirt appears beneath the frame.

Rows of metallic sequin bands alternate across dark, lightly transparent fabric. Some areas remain unfinished, exposing the spacing and direction of the work. Bowls of loose sequins occupy the foreground, while a dressed mannequin and pinned sketches recede into the room. Evening light catches tiny reflective edges without hiding the grain of the wooden supports or the concentration on the maker's face.
