A tangram bird on the sunken terrace
Published · Updated
A tangram bird stretches across the pale paving between two children. The girl kneels beside a broad coral triangle and guides its edge into place. Across from her, the boy points toward the small piece that forms the bird’s head. Their attention connects the opposite sides of the puzzle. The padded shapes have soft seams and distinct edges, making their large scale feel approachable.
The sunken terrace is wrapped in bands of lavender and small yellow flowers. Warm terracotta retaining walls follow the curve of the paving, and a wide stair leads to a wooden bench beneath a dense shade tree. Potted shrubs mark the changes in level. Beyond the terrace, cypress trees and a distant strip of water add another layer to the view.
The elevated angle keeps the whole bird visible, including the differently colored triangles, square and long angled piece. Sunlight brings out the fabric texture and the stone joints. The large garden provides an impressive setting, but the moment remains a simple exchange of ideas about where the next edge should meet.
