The Cafe with Walls of Roof Tiles
Published · Updated
Rows of upright terracotta roof tiles cover the walls of a quiet cafe. Their curved profiles catch the warm pendant light, forming alternating orange ridges and narrow shadows. Each tile has a slightly different shade and roughness, from pale fired clay to deep burnt sienna. A long walnut bench follows the wall beneath a shelf of small pots and trailing green plants.
Round wooden tables and woven leather chairs create a repeated rhythm along the bench. Small ceramic vessels and soft cushions add restrained details without filling the room. At the far end, a tall arched window looks onto rain-dark trees, its cool daylight contrasting with the amber light inside. The red brick floor has worn edges and uneven colour, continuing the tactile feeling of the walls. Pale concrete piers break up the tile pattern, while a simple counter closes the distant view. The photograph centres on the unexpected use of roof tiles as interior cladding, with familiar furniture showing their scale.
