The Crimson Sunken Flight Lounge
Published · Updated
Great ivory roof shells rise and meet above this lakeside lounge, their sweeping curves divided by a narrow skylight seam. The structure lifts like a set of wings, with slender glazed walls following its outer edges. Fine variations in the concrete surface catch the morning light and give the broad forms a tangible texture. Beyond the glass, still water reflects wooded hills and golden autumn trees, extending the sense of openness through the entire hall.
A crimson seating island sits a few shallow steps below the surrounding terrazzo floor. Curved sofas form several small bays around pale circular tables, bringing a warm colour and a comfortable scale beneath the soaring roof. An upper walkway bends along one side of the room and joins a gently arcing stair, with thin rails keeping the changes in level clear. The foreground viewpoint reveals how these routes flow around the central lounge. This photograph brings together dramatic shell construction, restrained furnishings and a quiet lake view, with the roof remaining the defining feature of the space.
