The Glass Shelf Library Atrium

Published · Updated

Turquoise glass walkways cross the immense central space of this contemporary library, linking several levels of bookshelves within a fine bronze framework. Tall columns carry the galleries from the stone floor toward a clear roof, and slender rails preserve the open views between levels. Rows of books give the metal structure a softer band of colour. At the far end, an enormous window reveals mist drifting among evergreen trees beside rocky water.

Long wooden reading tables and small shaded lamps occupy the ground floor, with green lounge chairs arranged on quiet islands of carpet. Potted trees stand near the window, bringing the landscape a little farther into the room. The glass undersides of the galleries catch cool daylight, while warm lamps make individual shelves and tables feel inviting within the vast space. Seen from an entry landing, the photograph follows a strong vertical rhythm of columns, bridges and light. It presents a library where delicate transparency and impressive scale remain closely connected.
