The Glasshouse with Unfolding Triangular Panels
Published · Updated
Pointed triangular panels open outward around the roof of this circular glasshouse. Dark metal frames define each piece of glass, and the visible hinges and supporting arms explain how the roof changes shape. Beneath the raised panels, a small olive tree occupies the centre of a planted bed. Ferns and other low plants follow the curved stone base, while an open door leads from the lawn to the narrow path inside. The elevated viewpoint makes the complete arrangement easy to understand.
Sunlight passes through the lifted glass and casts long angular shadows over the grass. Beyond the small enclosure, cypress trees and broad green canopies frame a lake with low hills on the far shore. The delicate reflections in the roof panels connect the structure to that open landscape without concealing its construction. A stone terrace in the foreground gives the scene a settled garden scale. The photograph captures the glasshouse in its open position, when its normally enclosing roof becomes a ring of sharp transparent wings.
