The Ivory Leaf Capital Salon
Published · Updated
Slender ivory columns open into elaborate capitals of interwoven stems and leaves in this lakeside drawing room. The pierced carving creates small pockets of shadow beneath the ceiling beams, giving the pale woodwork depth and delicacy. Shallow ribs cross the cream ceiling above, while a broad bay window frames green branches and blue water. Leaded upper panes add another fine pattern to the room without interrupting the larger view beyond the cushioned window seat.
Cream sofas and sage armchairs gather around a circular wooden table on a faded blue-and-cream rug. A green vase of white flowers stands at the centre, echoing the botanical carving overhead. To the right, a pale stone fireplace is topped by a shaped mirror, with simple ceramics arranged on nearby shelves. The oak floor and dark doorway supply warmer tones beneath the quiet upholstery and painted columns. Afternoon light moves gently across these surfaces, revealing both the detailed craftsmanship and the comfortable scale of the furnishings. The photograph presents a richly made room with an unusually calm character.
