The Lantern Man on the Prairie Road
Published · Updated
A straight road divides the autumn prairie, its faded centre line running toward a flat and distant horizon. Seen through the windscreen of an old car, the landscape feels close enough to enter: gloved hands hold the wheel, the dark dashboard curves across the foreground, and the long bonnet catches the last warm light. Telephone poles make a measured line beside the highway. A grain elevator and a small pumpkin stand interrupt the open fields.
On the shoulder, a man in a dark coat and broad hat raises a lantern. He is still, his small flame warm against the cooling grass. Behind his boots, an elongated shadow reaches toward the low sun, introducing an unsettling detail into the otherwise quiet roadside scene. Gold clouds fade into soft grey above the immense flat land. This autumn wallpaper combines the familiar feeling of a long rural drive with a restrained Halloween mystery, leaving the road itself open and empty.
