A rabbit and a bird appear as dark silhouettes on a white sheet in the farmhouse parlour. The brass magic lantern stands on a low wooden box, its lens glowing while the girl beside it holds the slide control. Her blue smocked dress and white cardigan catch the warm spill of light. Behind her, four adults sit close together, hands folded and careful smiles held in place as they watch the little show.

The room is rich in quiet domestic detail: floral wallpaper, lace on the table, walnuts in a bowl and a fringed lamp beside the sofa. Pumpkins rest near the window, beyond which a stubble field fades into grey evening. Several autumn leaves seem suspended on their way upward through the glass view. That small impossibility changes the mood of the otherwise familiar gathering. Brass, wool and soft cotton keep the scene grounded in touchable materials. This Halloween photograph suits a gentle uncanny story, a seasonal portrait wallpaper or a print that rewards a second glance at the window.
