The Mirrored Face above the Water
Published · Updated
A monumental mirrored face rises from a shallow courtyard pool. Horizontal bands of polished steel build its features from the neck to the top of the head. Most are aligned, while several upper sections turn slightly away to reveal dark gaps and a central support. A narrow stream falls from the mouth, breaking the reflection into small spreading ripples.
The metal catches fragments of the surrounding garden. Copper coloured leaves, pale stone walls and blue sky stretch across the curved face, changing direction with each band. Bright highlights remain concentrated along the sunlit edges, while the lower surfaces reflect the darker water. The calm expression contrasts with the shifting, fragmented surroundings.
Autumn trees and clipped shrubs frame the sculpture without competing with it. A simple stone border follows the pool, with a few fallen leaves resting near the water. The low viewpoint makes the height of the head clear while showing its grounded base. This photograph is free to use, including for commercial projects.
