The Peacock Glass Jewel Salon

Published · Updated

A bronze peacock spreads its tail before the large floral window at the centre of this jewellery salon. Amber glass eyes punctuate the open metal feathers, catching the daylight and giving the sculpture a luminous, jewel-like character. The bird stands above a rounded display counter with richly figured timber panels, brass trim and a clear glass top. Small pieces of jewellery rest on dark velvet trays beneath it, linking the decorative centrepiece to the room's purpose.

Tall stained-glass panels flank the peacock, their white flowers and green stems framed by polished wood and olive curtains. The same flowing lines continue into pale green ceiling ribs, which curl across a cream background. Two olive velvet chairs and slender opal-shaded lamps provide a quiet place to sit on either side of the counter. Circular mosaic patterns curve across the pale stone floor, while sunlight falls in soft bands through the glass. The photograph gathers metalwork, coloured glass, curved joinery and small precious objects into one carefully composed interior, with the peacock remaining the unmistakable focal point.
