The Ribbed Bench Rolls into a Loop

Published · Updated

A continuous timber bench flows through a planted courtyard, its near end rolling into a large open circle. Closely spaced wooden ribs follow the same changing curve, then flatten into a seat and rise into a broad backrest. Narrow gaps between the ribs reveal the hollow construction, while a metal rail connects them through the centre of the rolled end.

Warm brown wood stands against pale brick, green ferns and late autumn leaves. The bench rests on low solid supports above the paving, leaving space for a rhythm of thin shadows underneath. The nearest edges show layered grain and small variations in colour, making the repeated pieces feel carefully worked rather than mechanically perfect.

Damp stone reflects small patches of afternoon light around the feet of the bench. A tree and soft planting enclose the quiet seating area without hiding the full shape. The empty setting makes the changing form easy to follow. This photograph is free to use, including in commercial projects.
