The River Blooms Beneath Clear Water

Published · Updated

The brightest colour in this river lies below its surface. Fine red fronds spread across the shallow stone bed, separated by pale patches of bare rock. Clear water carries small ripples over them, while darker reflections gather toward the deeper side of the pool. The plants make an intricate foreground without hiding the shape of the river around them.

Upstream, two short waterfalls pass around a broad rocky island. One spreads into a fine curtain; the other drops through a narrower opening. Their white strands lead the eye toward the quieter shelves above, where scattered stones break the current. Green trees follow both banks, with a low hillside visible beyond the opening in the valley.

Sunlight catches the left bank and the upper falls, leaving the near rocks in cooler shade. The mix of moving water, still reflections and delicate underwater growth gives the landscape its quiet surprise. This photo is free for personal and commercial use.
