The Rose Plaster House at the Fork

Published · Updated

An old stone arch frames a narrow house standing at the meeting of two hillside lanes. One cobbled route climbs beside the front door, while the other falls away past the tall stone base. Above it, warm rose plaster and dark timber brackets create a distinctive projecting upper floor. A simple iron lantern hangs beside the wall, and small shuttered windows sit beneath a pitched roof of uneven clay tiles. The building fits closely into the changing levels of the street.

Rain has left the cobbles dark and reflective, with small pools catching the pale sky. Copper-colored leaves climb around the doorway, and wooded hills appear beyond the lower lane. Warm light reaches the house while the foreground remains sheltered beneath the arch. The photograph suggests ideas for earthy exterior colors, textured paving and the use of gateways to frame a view. Its charm comes from practical details: thick walls, sturdy brackets and paths shaped by the slope of the land.
