Wet stone steps descend between whitewashed houses, potted plants and magenta bougainvillea toward a vivid blue coastal bay.

The White Stair Above the Blue Bay

Published · Updated

A narrow stair descends between whitewashed houses toward a deep blue bay. The dark stone treads are irregular and worn, with pale mortar outlining each edge. Rounded parapets follow the changing levels, creating small terraces beside wooden doors and blue shutters. The plaster is uneven and textured, catching the morning light in soft patches rather than a flat white sheet.

Magenta bougainvillea spills down a pale rose wall on the right. Terracotta pots hold herbs, shrubs and small flowers along the opposite ledges, bringing color and life to the compact spaces. Recent rain has left the steps slightly glossy, with a few fallen petals resting in the damp joints. Beyond the houses, a rocky headland stretches into the calm water beneath a clear sky. This photograph suits coastal garden inspiration, warm-weather color palettes and collections of intimate village architecture. The descending path links the foreground details to the open sea.
