The Scarlet Appliqué Garden Tent
Published · Updated
Large cream stems and indigo flowers climb the scarlet walls and spread across the roof of this garden sitting tent. The pattern changes scale as it rises, turning the overhead panels into a continuous canopy. Seams, folds and soft edges reveal the cloth construction, while the tall central wooden pole gives the lively surface a clear structural centre.
Low indigo seating follows the perimeter of the room. Its warm wooden base steps down into a shallow central recess, where a hammered copper table holds a small teapot and two cups. A closed book on the near bench and a few textured cushions keep the room comfortable without competing with the decoration.
Two open entrances interrupt the patterned walls at different distances. Pear branches hang beside the larger opening, and a stone path continues beyond the smaller one. Daylight travels across the floor and catches the table rim, leaving the roof naturally shaded. The view from a bench corner makes the tent feel like a complete room within the garden.
