Two Seats within the Copper Hearth
Published · Updated
Two small seats face one another inside the same deep tiled opening as the fire. The curved enclosure turns a hearth into a place to sit, with chestnut wood backs and soft wine-coloured cushions tucked beneath the amber vault. A broad copper hood rises above the grate, its tarnished surface catching only a narrow band of light.
Diamond tiles continue from the surround into the recess. Their varied brown and honey tones make the curve easy to read, while the small flame brings a local warm reflection to the floor. A low bookcase connects the hearth to a garden window, where another cushioned seat follows the bay. Golden leaves outside carry the warm palette beyond the glass.
The view begins beside a green velvet sofa and an oval table. A worn rug and timber floor lead toward the little fire room, keeping its scale domestic and inviting. Cool daylight gives the plaster, wood and copper distinct surfaces; the protected space beneath the hood stays gently shaded.
