The son chooses the stepwell route

A boy leads the way along a stepwell route, carrying a folded map in one hand as he turns his attention toward the next part of the descent. His father follows a few steps behind, looking toward him with an interested smile. Their separate packs and easy walking positions give the exploration a shared purpose while leaving the choice with the son.

Rows of sandstone stairs stretch across the far walls and descend through broad landings toward a dark pool. Worn edges, patches of staining and varied stone joints keep the repeated geometry from feeling flat. Bright sunlight falls across the near treads, while the deeper reservoir lies in cool shadow. A thick parapet separates the foreground path from the open space beyond.

Teal cotton, a striped shirt and a small navy backpack distinguish the boy from the warm stone. His father’s olive shirt and dark trousers sit more quietly in the same light. The folded map is a small detail within the immense structure, making their route feel personal without diminishing the size of the place.
