A stepwell descends in zigzag shadows
Published · Updated
A stepwell descends through repeated short flights of stone stairs toward a dark pool far below. Small landings connect the zigzag routes, while strong light casts crisp triangular shadows along the treads. Worn edges and pale mineral marks soften the otherwise precise geometry of the walls.
The near parapet crosses the lower view on a diagonal, giving a clear point from which to judge the depth. Broad ledges and an unadorned platform frame the far side above still jade water. The overhead angle reveals the structure as a connected series of practical steps and resting places, with light and shadow explaining each change of level.
