Timber gallery turns toward the river
Published · Updated
A timber gallery turns its curved ribs from the right wall into the ceiling, guiding the eye toward an angled river window. Blue artwork occupies the opposite wall above a long stone bench. The empty floor keeps the unusual enclosure and its changing lines visible from front to back.
Small fasteners and timber grain give the repeated ribs a material presence. Warm daylight catches the bench's rough face and stretches across the floorboards, while autumn trees and reeds sit beyond the glass. The room's interest comes from the relationship between a level walking surface, a bending enclosure and the open view, rather than from a crowd or ornate furnishings.
