A giant salamander rests on the river stones
Published · Updated
A giant salamander rests across rounded river stones beneath clear green water. Its broad flat head has tiny dark eyes and a gently curved closed mouth, while mottled skin continues along the thick body. Short sturdy limbs press against the rocks beside the broad tapering tail.
Olive algae coats the surrounding cobbles, and narrow bands of sunlight move across their uneven surfaces. The water above forms a rippling ceiling with small bright reflections, leaving the deeper river cooler blue-green. The low underwater angle shows the animal's connection to the streambed and preserves space around its head. Fine skin texture, blunt toes and worn stones remain distinct within the softly moving light.
